EPS Foam Mold for Casting in Bronze

Finished Eps Foam Shell Shape Bronze Casting
Finished Eps Foam Shell Shape Bronze Casting

This customer uses EPS foam to create full-size sculpture patterns based on their designs, which are then sent to a foundry for casting in bronze. The photos in this write up highlight the process. The first image shows cylindrical foam blocks that have been glued together and are ready to be carved into the desired shape. These contours are carefully measured and observed based on a scale model. The next image displays the foam fully carved, and the final image shows the foam covered in a thin layer of clay to add texture and detail.

The foam design will serve as the pattern the foundry will use to create its molds. This project is intended for the plaza at Hampden House in Bethesda, Maryland, with installation planned for May 2025.
